With just three months until its anticipated release, the first trailer for Fast and Furious 6 has just aired during the Super Bowl.
If you thought the action in Fast Five was OTT, Fast Six looks like it will further up the ante. Towing a bank vault down a public street was so last year – how about hijacking a cargo plane using cars and harpoons?
Indeed, you have to keep your brain firmly in the backseat when watching a Fast and Furious film, but we have to applaud the amount of autmotive action crammed into the one minute trailer, as absurd as some of the setpieces may be. Only in a Fast and Furious flim can you witness a rampaging tank crushing everything in its path on a Spanish highway, a racecar with a custom-built front designed to send cars into orbit on impact and a Dodge Charger ploughing through the nose of an exploding plane all in the same film.
There's a number of notable cars rarely seen in films on display, too. We briefly caught sight of a Ferrari FXX, Diesel can be seen driving a Dodge Charger Daytona whereas Paul Walker looks to be jaunting in a Ford Escort MK1 – don't expect to see them survive the film in one piece, though.
Here's the official plot synposis:
Since Dom (Diesel) and Brian’s (Walker) Rio heist toppled a kingpin’s empire and left their crew with $100 million, our heroes have scattered across the globe. But their inability to return home and living forever on the lam have left their lives incomplete.
Meanwhile, Hobbs (Johnson) has been tracking an organization of lethally skilled mercenary drivers across 12 countries, whose mastermind (Evans) is aided by a ruthless second-in-command revealed to be the love Dom thought was dead, Letty (Rodriguez). The only way to stop the criminal outfit is to outmatch them at street level, so Hobbs asks Dom to assemble his elite team in London. Payment? Full pardons for all of them so they can return home and make their families whole again.
Fast and Furious 6 will be screeching into cinemas May 24th.
