Codemasters have revealed some rather juicy new details for F1 2016 which is due for release in just over a month.

F1 2016 Austrian Grand Prix Red Bull Formula One F1 2016 will see the debut of formation laps where you complete one lap of the track pre-race in order to warm your tyres ready for the start of the race, this of course adds massively to the immersion and tension for the upcoming race and is a fantastic addition to the series.

With the formation lap complete you can opt for a manual race start where you must engage your clutch and balance those all-important revs as you wait for the lights to go out. Needless to say, reaction times are critical here: too early and you risk a jump start and penalty.

Codemasters have also released a new trailer showcasing some of the new features which can seen below.

Codemasters have also announced that F1 2016 will feature 22 player online multiplayer racing. This of course means every slot on the starting grid can be taken up by a human driver which should make for some truly exciting and perhaps manic racing action.

Increasing the multiplayer support to 22 players was extremely important to us,” said Principal Games Designer Lee Mather. “We want to be able to fill the whole grid with human players to create those great race moments and stories. It also provides greater support for online leagues.”

Furthermore in F1 2016 you'll be able to have manual control over your pit lane entry and braking to shave off valuable tenths of lost time. Of course this presents the hazard of obtaining a penalty for speeding in the pit lane so you'll need to brake and reduce your speed in time.

Other new additions include the safety and virtual safety cars, and new pit wall boards will provide key information as seen in real life. A realistic penalty system has been included along with improved detection of car damage, remodelled kerbs and new physics.

F1 2016 will release for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC platforms on August 19.
