Release Date: 04/10/2013

With Codemasters concentrating on promoting F1 2013's classic content, we've seen very little coverage on the core game representing this year's championship.

With this in mind, Alan managed to have a quick hands-on with F1 2013's contemporary content and filmed a quick race in a Ferrari racing round Monza.

Here we get to see the new revamped pit menu with added crew animations, a novel touch that adds to the authenticity and immersion, but the most striking improvement is the visuals. Yes, the the visuals have steadily improved every year with each new F1 title, but this year Codemasters have truly outdone themselves. The textures, reflections and lighting look incredibly polished, and is a testament to Codemasters' ability to squeece every last horsepower out of the current gen hardware. Let's just hope the final console versions don't suffer from frame rate issues as a result like in Grid 2.

Likewise, the handling has seen similar refinements, and while we sadly didn't have access to a wheel, the improvements were instantly detectable, as the handling felt noticeably smoother than F1 2012 according to Alan.

There's still a trickle of Gamescom coverage to come, but in the meantime you can catch up on, including a time warp back to Spa in the classic content and an interview with the developers that delves into the difficulties of securing the classic licenses .
