The recently closed Evolution Studios development team that has brought us the much loved WRC and Motorstorm series along with Driveclub have joined Codemasters to form a behemoth of a racing team.

This exciting news comes thanks to Codemasters offering the ex Evolution Studios team a deal to keep them together to work on new projects. Most of the Evolution team, including co-founder Mick Hocking, accepted the deal and are said to be working together in a separate team albeit from the same offices as Codemasters staff. Sadly previous IP from Evolution Studios remain in the hands on Sony so don't expect to see any new sequels in name at least.

Codemasters CEO Frank Sagnier commented on the situation:

We want the team to remain the team that they are. We want to benefit from everything that they've learned as a team together, we want them to create their own games. Of course there will be synergies, of course we will share stuff, but we would like to make sure they retain their identity and stay together as a team to do what they're good at. What we don't want to do is bring in a team of 50 people and start having some work on one game and some on another, on existing IP. The whole point is to keep their DNA and build a new game.

Evolution Studios co-founder Mick Hocking will take on the role of VP of product development for Codemasters, and offered some comments:

The core of the Evo team have been together for 15 years and we really love working together," stated Hocking. "We all love racing, we're all petrol heads. This is just an opportunity to bring those guys across, keep the team together, keep all that knowledge and all that expertise together, and combine it with the fantastic talent at Codemasters.

Codemasters recently announced that there focus was going to be very much on racing in future years, with these two teams working alongside one another the potential for new and exciting racing games is a thought that gets me very excited indeed, a match made in heaven perhaps? What do you make of the situation? Let us know in the comments section below.
