As a proud new owner of the long-awaited PS4, the delay of DriveClub still stings. Sure, I can get my racing kicks in Need for Speed: Rivals, but it feels a tad diluted on PS4 – an unfortunate setback that comes with cross-platform releases in next-gen launch line-ups. Evolution's DriveClub will signal the true start to next-gen racing on Sony's new console, with its immaculately detailed car models, breathtakingly-beautiful backdrops and revolutionary community features.
Originally set to be a launch title, DriveClub was delayed at the last minute with no word on when we can expect to see it roll off the assembly line other than a vague "early 2014" release window. However, we may now have a more exact date to go by.
While players in the US and more recently Europe have entered the next-gen era, the PS4 isn't landing in Japan until next February. Looking at the PlayStation Japan website reveals DriveClub listed as one of the launch titles, meaning we could be looking at February 22nd as a possible release date – in Japan, at least.
A February release for DriveClub would work well too, since Sony's other high profile first party title InFamous: Second Son is scheduled to follow soon after on March 21st, making the prospective date for DriveClub more probable.
Hopefully it won't be too long until we get confirmation on DriveClub's European release date, but we'll be sure to keep you posted.
