One of the most white-knuckle driving game experiences of last year is about to get even more intense this week if that was ever possible. First announced in January, DiRT Rally is getting PlayStation VR support in a forthcoming update – and it's coming sooner than we expected.
Chief Designer Paul Coleman recently hinted that DiRT Rally will be getting the PSVR treatment in a matter of weeks, but an official PlayStation store listing has provided a firm release date of February 17th. Yes, that's this Friday. Yes, that's only two days away.
From Friday, DiRT Rally's VR update will be available as a £9.99 download, or you'll be able to purchase a physical copy with the VR update pre-loaded at selected retailers, as shown by the box art tweeted by Codies.

Unlike other games which are often only partially playable in VR, every car, route and discipline in DiRT Rally will support PSVR. A new two player mode will also be introduced, where a second player takes on the role of the co-driver, using the social screen to send calls to the driver using the Dualshock 4 controller and touchpad. PC players, on the other hand, have been enjoying DiRT Rally in VR since last July, when the Oculus Rift update was deployed.
While we have faith that Codemasters will have optimised DiRT Rally for VR to reduce the risk of motion sickness, it goes without saying that navigating rally stages is going to be a bumpy ride, so we'd recommend having a sick bag on standby just in case. Having said that, we feared the same would happen in the TrackMania Turbo VR update, and that didn't make us chuck up our dinner.
