Codemasters has revealed the design of the DiRT Rally 2.0 Steelbook which has more than a passing resemblance to Colin McRae Rally 2.0’s artwork.

The steelbook design uses the same turquoise colouring and lowercase font featured on the box art for Colin McRae Rally 2.0 over 18 years ago. That’s not all though, the steelbook also features the three picture strip and even goes as far as to stay somewhat faithful to the original three images: once again the middle picture depicts a car taking to the air. Obviously, the “2.0” in DiRT Rally 2.0 is also a nod to the classic title, clearly, Codemasters are very proud of their upcoming rally racer.

It perhaps comes as no surprise to learn that Codemasters’ Senior Graphic Designer, Dave Alcock, worked on the original design as well as the DiRT Rally 2.0 Steelbook: ‘I had an amazing sense of déjà vu using the same design features as we did back in the day, but it’s great to see it still holds up. The Steelbook design just looks as modern and sleek as it did back in 2000 – the screenshots look a lot better though!’

Chief Games Designer Ross Gowing stated: “It’s a great nod to where the studio has come from, and reminds us all of the amazing quality benchmark that Codemasters have always set.”

The homage to Colin McRae 2.0 features on the front side of the steelbook reserving a very dramatic and almost moody art for the rear.

Codemasters recently released their very latest DiRT Rally 2.0 video as part of their ongoing dev insight series which shone some light on some of the improvements we can expect to see over the original title.

DiRT Rally 2.0 will release on February 26, 2019, across the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Players who purchase the Deluxe Edition can access the full title four days earlier, February 22, 2019.
