With just under two months to launch, Codemasters are gradually trickling through information on what we can expect to discover when DiRT Rally 2.0 finally hits retail in late February.

The very latest trailer grants us much-anticipated look at some of the classic cars to be featured. Classic cars are a key aspect to DiRT Rally 2.0, the title being free of the restrictions of an official license and therefore able to cast a wider net over automotive excellence through the ages.

Check out the latest trailer below which features the classic Alpine Renault A110 1600 S, the legendary Ford Escort Mk II , the definitive Group B Audi Sport quattro S1 E2, and the unmistakable Colin McRae Subaru Impreza 1995. The cars look great and if the audio of the previous game is anything to go by, they should sound great as well.

Visually the game is coming along with sneak peeks at various stages including those with more in the way of crowd activity. The trailer above also contains DiRT Rally 2.0’s stage degradation feature, something we’ll take a closer look at when we get a hands-on.

Codemasters Rally Consultant Jon Armstrong commented “If you start first on the road you’re going to suffer from a lot of loose gravel, which means you’ll struggle for traction – and that makes it hard to put in a flowing stage with a good stage time,” Jon continued, “The optimal run time is probably around 5th – 10th place because you get that loose surface swept off, but it’s not too rough that it ruins your car or your rhythm.”

It will be interesting to see how this affects your stage times, Jon points out: “The further down the running order you are from there, the more the surface is going to plough and rut, so you need to adjust your driving style and even your vehicle setup to cope with the evolving track. Even though you can drive down the same stage a thousand times, these stages are going to present a different challenge every time.” This all sounds very promising and will no doubt provide a solid challenge for those experienced with DiRT Rally.
