Feral Interactive has announced that DiRT 4 will be released on macOS and Linux in 2019. Originally developed by Codemasters for PC and consoles, DiRT 4 is the latest title in the long-running DiRT series which dates back to 2007 which itself is seen as a continuation of the Colin McRae Rally titles from 1998 onwards.
DiRT 4 aimed to appease a large crowd by offering “Gamer” and “Simulation” handling. Many were expecting the latter handling model to somewhat replicate what was present in Codemasters’ DiRT Rally from two years prior. Sadly the handling didn’t live up to expectation leaving many racing sim enthusiasts disappointed. However, those looking for a more approachable alternative to DiRT Rally should be happy with the middle ground DiRT 4 offers.
DiRT 4‘s roster of over 50 rally cars, buggies, trucks, and crosskarts includes the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI, Subaru WRX STI NR4 and Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2 to name a few. DiRT 4’s “Your Stage” track generator grants players the chance to create their own rally routes albeit within limits.
