Rocket League is a great deal of fun, but can feel a little repetitive at times largely thanks to its rectangular shaped maps, all of that however is about to change soon. Developer Psyonix have confirmed, during an interview with PC Gamer, that different shaped maps will “absolutely” be coming to Rocket League.

When asked if we will ever see different and weird level layouts, Psyonix President Dave Hagewood said: "Absolutely, absolutely, absolutely. We wanted to start with the standard fields this time because we wanted to make sure everyone understood what the base game was, how we see the standard Rocket League experience being.

We also wanted to promote competitive play in the game, and people who want extremely balanced competitive play and ranked modes and things like that, without adding a lot of extra noise. But we know the majority of players aren’t super competitive, they just want to have a good time—and we have a great time with the crazy different maps and so on. So we already have some of those in production to roll out later on."

Psyonix sadly didn't confirm when these different shaped maps would be available for the car soccer title but did explain that they are going to be constantly working on new maps. They mentioned the very next map will be a standard rectangular shape but some of the maps after will alter in shape to “mix it up a little bit”.

Are you still pouring time into Rocket League or is it getting a little stale now? Will newly shaped maps add to the fun factor or do you prefer the standard rectangular maps? Let us know below.
