Here's a blast from the past for you: remember the cartoony combat game Cel Damage on the original Xbox, PS2 and GameCube? If so, then you're in luck, because it's getting an HD re-release on PS4, PS3 and Vita this April as a digital download.

For the uninformed, Cel Damage was something of a cult classic originally released in 2001. In essence, it was a cel-shaded vehicular combat game with an aresnal of OTT weapons at your disposal – think along the lines of Twisted Metal colliding with Wacky Races.

The HD re-release is being developed by newly-formed indie studio Finish Line games based in Toronto. Like the original, game modes comprise of Smack Attack (deathmatch), Flag Rally (capture-the-flag) and Gate Relay. You'll be able to battle it out with in 13 interactive cartoony levels, with six drivers, 10 cars and more than 30 weapon power ups

Best of all, Cel Damage HD will support CrossPlay, so if you buy it on one platform you'll automatically have access to the game on all other platforms. There's even split-screen support for the PS4 version, which is all-too rare in a generation dominated by online multiplayer.

"As longtime developers, we've always enjoyed games that meld the realm of video games with other, similar forms of entertainment," said Daniel Posner, co-founder of Finish Line Games. "With Cel Damage HD, we're bringing back one of our favorite mash-ups of classic vehicle combat games and cartoon animation to give players the distinct experience of playing as if they are in a cartoon. We are excited to see how modern day fans react to this merging of mediums and we're thrilled to be giving players cross-buy support to allow them to play on their preferred system."
