A new British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) game is currently in negotiations with the goal of releasing in 2021/2022.

Earlier this month, BTCC Series Director Alan Gow joined the V8 Sleuth Podcast to talk all things racing. During the fan questions segment of the Podcast, the chat turned to the much-loved TOCA game series from the late 90’s. Gow talked about his involvement with the old TOCA games from Codemasters before revealing that the BTCC is “in the final stages of negotiations to produce a new BTCC game so that hopefully should be coming out in the next 18 months/ 2 years”.

Triple BTCC champion Matt Neal conducted a live Facebook stream fairly recently updating fans on his current status as well as taking on questions.

When asked what are the chances of a modern BTCC game, Neal answered: “There is one in the making we are reliably informed. A beta version might come out at the end of this year, then I think it’s targeted for the end of 2021”.

Neal then dropped the bombshell that rather an add-on for another title, this supposed BTCC game will be a standalone experience. “This is a dedicated BTCC game like the old TOCA package,” says Neal.

To add further fuel to the fire, current BTCC driver Dan Cammish was invited to the Simbin UK studios last year. Of course, Simbin were due to release GTR 3 last year but all has gone quiet on that front, have the team acquired the BTCC licence?

Other possible developers that could be working on a potential BTCC game include Codemasters who have released six officially licensed Touring Car titles with their long-running TOCA series. Late last year,  Codemasters acquired Slightly Mad Studios who is another potential developer given their motorsport repertoire with games such as Need for Speed Shift and Project CARS. We also know that Italian studio Milestone has a few unannounced IPs they are currently working on that are scheduled for a 2021 release. Of course, it could be a completely different studio to the usual suspects, your guess is as good as ours.

Let’s hope those negotiations go well, let us know your thoughts below.
