In a surprise announcement, it has been revealed the late great F1 driver Ayrton Senna will be associated in one form or another with Gran Turismo 6.
Speaking during Sony's press conference at the Brazil Game Show, Polyphony Digital president Kazunori Yamauchi confirmed that his studio and the Ayrton Senna Institute – the charity set up by Ayrton's sister Viviane Senna in the aftermath of the racing driver's tragic death at Imola in 1994, to provide aid and education to Brazil's impoverished children – are collaborating together on GT6 to bring Senna-related material to the game.
Through the means of a single or a chain of post-launch downloadable updates (which, we assume, will be akin to the "Spec" updates for Gran Turismo 5 and Gran Turismo 5: Prologue), players will be able to "trace the roots of Ayrton Senna's racing career" in Gran Turismo 6.
A special Ayrton Senna Limited Edition PS3 bundle will also be made available to customers in Brazil, with the bundle including a copy of the Gran Turismo 6 15th Anniversary edition (you know, the one with those blue Anniversary cars and the 1,000,000 in-game Credits).
No other details were explicitly mentioned, though a report by the Brazilian news site Globo is claiming that Gran Turismo 6 will allow players to actually race as Ayrton Senna in the game. Though, if this is indeed true, there is always the likelihood that this will amount to no more than the licenced WRC and NASCAR overalls that were made available as DLC in GT5, and almost certainly won't be an avatar of the three-times Formula One World Champion in GT6.
Whilst us here at Team VVV could wax lyrical over how seriously psyched we are about this announcement for Gran Turismo 6, we'd love to know what you make of this Gran Turismo/Ayrton Senna tie-up, so type away in the comments section below, on our Facebook page and in the GT6 thread in our Forums. And, as always, do keep checking back to the Team VVV site for the latest racing game news.
