After a long wait full of delays, Kunos Simulazioni's much anticipated PC sim Assetto Corsa has finally been released as a beta on Steam Early Access.
It's certainly been a successful launch for the Italian developer so far: not only has Assetto Corsa garnered considerable praise from the community and sim racing critics (us included – check out our first test drive gameplay video of Assetto Corsa for our initial impressions), but it was also one of the top sellers on Steam, coming second only to Call of Duty: Ghosts. It also remained in the top five top sellers during its launch weekend. It's a testament to Assetto Corsa's loyal cult following in the PC sim racing community, and a sign that the racing genre can still hold its own alongside other popular genres.
Kunos have stated that Assetto Corsa's widespread positive reception has more than exceeded their best expectations, and are hard at work developing the game's first update. Set for release on November 22nd, the content update will add new features along with 3 new cars and 2 new tracks. Exact details on the content have yet to be unveiled, but we're taking an in-game image of the Ferrari P4/5 posted on the Assetto Corsa FaceBook post as a hint of one of the cars that will be added next week.
This is just the start of Assetto Corsa – as promised, more content will be added in updates every two weeks until the final release next year. Likewise, we'll keeping tabs on the development in future videos, as Alan explores the game delivering his impressions along the way whilst following the development until the fina release.
