News Asphalt Xtreme takes the mobile racing series off-road

The long-running Asphalt series has returned to mobiles with the free-to-play release of Asphalt Xtreme, taking the series off-road for the first time. Asphalt seems like an ironic name for a game that takes place entirely on dirt, though – but that name is already taken.
All the hallmarks of the Asphalt series appear to be here, from the slick graphics, accessible arcade handling and of course unwanted in-app purchases to top up your fuel.
However, in keeping with the off-road theme Asphalt's traditional lineup of licensed exotic sports cars has been replaced with buggies, pickups, rally cars, muscle cars, SUVs and monster trucks from the likes of Jeep, Ford, Mercedes-Benz, Predator, Dodge and Chevrolet, with customisation options also available.

Asphalt Xtreme appears to be a pretty substantial package, with five game modes, over 400 Career events, over 500 Mastery challenges and Limited-Time Events and eight player simultaneous online multiplayer, with more events to be added at a later date.
In all honesty, Asphalt Xtreme looks to be taking its cues from Evolution Studios' MotorStorm, which didn't go unnoticed by its former developer Paul Rustchynsky on Twitter. How I wish they would remake that series.
Asphalt Xtreme is available to download on the Google Play, iOS and Windows stores. You'll need to free up 1.4GB on your device, though.
