Release Date: 30/09/2014

In a surprise announcement at Gamescom, Forza Motosports Creative Director Dan Greenawalt took to the stage  announcing yet more free DLC, this time in the form of the Rolls Royce Wraith and the Formula E Renault Spark. Both of these announcements were extremely significant in the automotive world as well as the gaming world.

Rolls Royce have never been included in a game before. This represents an old and established brand, a sign of quality and excellence turning to the video game industry and recognising that potential. It’s testament to the development of videogame visuals and the evolution of technology that we see them making their first foray into the world of gaming.

This interview discusses the reasons and benefits, from visuals that accurately capture the acute attention to detail in production, to the potential benefits in the forms of car sales and awareness in marketing. The games industry is constantly growing and evolving. This is a significant step which could see a shift in the larger automotive industry taking notice.

Formula E came as an even greater surprise. The series launches on September 13th, and it’s clear these are early yet critical days for the series. The technology is at an early stage yet and no doubt the first few years (if it survives) will see a swift evolution of the car's performance and approach to generating power. However, first the general public need to get an idea on how these cars will look and perform, and where better than in video game form with the Forza graphics engine giving a perfect test ground.

Later Dan briefly discusses Forza Horizon 2, the place within the Forza Franchise and highlights key progress made in stepping up to new hardware.
