We recently attended a Dakar 18 event where we got a hands-on with a preview version of the off-road racer which is due to hit shelves on September 11 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
Developed by Bigmoon Entertainment, Dakar 18 aims to be a realistic simulation of the famous off-road endurance event where the focus is as much on survival as it is being the fastest.
Players are expected to read navigational notes and signs, as well as listen to the navigator, in order to find all the waypoints to traverse the various environments on offer in this huge open-world which clocks in at 18,000 square kilometres.
All car classes are represented from the 2018 Dakar Rally, you can expect to get to grips with bikes, cars, trucks, SSVs (UTV) and quads which all present different challenges and require a unique approach to get the best from them. Time of day and weather are also simulated and change during a race to provide a constantly evolving challenge as you tackle sand, mud, and water looking for the least damaging route to keep your vehicle in one piece.
Besides the single-player content, Dakar 18 also features online multiplayer (which should make for some interesting battles and perhaps teamwork) and even 2-player split screen which is becoming rarer these days.
You can view our exclusive gameplay on a preview version of Dakar 18, as well as an interview with Bigmoon Entertainment CEO and Dakar 18 game director Paulo J. Games, below.
