The in-game art looks a little nicer than the trailer art, but it definitely doesn’t quite have the feel of the originals. I believe this new developer is Western, which might have something to do with it.

Also, if the music isn’t by Yuzo Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima, it simply isn’t a Streets of Rage game. The music is everything in those games.

It seems odd that SEGA were so precious about this IP in the past, that they turned Core Design away (that game became Fighting Force), but fast-forward to now and they kinda just threw it at a random, small developer.

I’m glad they applied that discount for PC owner, cos the leap from the standard version isn’t that huge. Fantastic game even today, though!

The fact the base unit is the CD-ROM systems is of huge appeal to me. The CD-ROM era is one that is particularly close to my heart – and also dangerous to revisit. The lasers on my old systems are starting to die off – and they aren’t all particularly easy to emulate.

I’d be tempted to go in on the case unit just for that reason alone, then consider getting the addons later for cart games.

I’ll be keeping an eye on this thread, cos I’m very interested to see opinions before I dive into this…

Letting us only choose one was CRUEL! Haha!

I started gaming on the ZX Spectrum 128k and got really serious about gaming with the Amiga 500 (which I may have chosen if it was on the list).
However, I have to agree with Alan, the PS1 was such a huge leap. It was also the first time that I felt that almost everyone I knew had the same system as me. Even “casual” players were obsessed with the PS1.

My final case is it was the first console I really discovered the joy of imports – and there was such a huge library of weird and wonderful games from Japan on that system, which were still very playable for somebody who doesn’t know the language.

I’ll never forget launch day, popping in Ridge Racer and saying out loud “oh my… it’s as good as the arcade!”. Of course, it wasn’t quite, but on your home TV, it was good enough!

I’m actually genuinely considering a fully electric car. They are starting to put restrictions on fuel cars where I live, including days where there are zones you cannot drive in at all. As Tim says though, I’m concerned about the charging logistics…

For now, I’ve been using those cars that are parked on the street, that you use your mobile phone to unlock and pay by the minute.

I’d love to hear people’s thoughts on this, cos I think racing games are so perfect for eSports. On national television here in Spain, they showed an iRacing tournament, which I think shows quite how big eSports have become now. It had the same time-slot that they would show tennis or other “regular” sports.

I’d definitely be interested in seeing more but don’t really know where to look.

It feels strange calling it “eSports” when I think of what kids are earning these days. I clearly got into competitive gaming at the wrong time!

I played as an Engineer for AK47, for Team Fortress Classic. We won the Wireplay UK Championship one year, that was pretty cool.

I also represented Finland for Unreal Tournament 2003 and 2004. Yep, Finland. Despite not having Finnish blood or having ever been to Finland. Things were a bit more relaxed back then!

I have a career earnings of around $3000. I don’t want to think what it may have been today.

It’s funny you’ve got a photo of Outrun in your post, cos that arcade cabinet was one I spent a LONG time on. The other racing game I loved at the arcade was the Daytona USA cabinet which had cameras mounted on it, so you could see the angry faces of your opponents.

Aside from those, I love pretty much anything Namco put in the arcades – from the Ridge Racer series, to Tekken, Point Blank, Time Crisis – all the way up to the new Mario Kart (which isn’t retro, I know).
