The McLaren P1 is a landmark car of the 21st century, as Clarkson attested when he hurled it round Spa singing its praises in a memorable episode of Top Gear. This prompted a question on the minds of Top Gear fans everywhere: could it trounce the Top Gear test track and deliver the fastest time yet?
Unfortunately, we're still waiting to find out the answer. We have Hammond to thank, who insisted on pitting it against Porsche's equivalent 918 hybrid supercar in a future episode.
To ease the pain, Alan put in a lap with the mighty McLaren on Forza 5's virtual Top Gear test track. With a spot of smart editing and Forza 5's authentic TV-style replays, he was able to cobble together a video predicting how the P1 will perform in the hands of his Stigness around the famous test track.

For those interested, Alan's lap time came in at 01:14.3. If this was an actual Top Gear power lap, the P1 would have placed joint second with the BAC Mono just behind the Pagani Huyara, the current leader of the Top Gear power lap board. We'll have to wait and see if the P1 can achieve a similar time when it's taken out on the track for real – the Porsche 918 will apparently feature in this week's episode, so we could potentially find out soon if the P1 is to be pitted against it.
Coincidentally, I once produced my own Top Gear Stig lap video in Gran Turismo 5 driving the Ferrari 458, long before everyone else started doing it in Forza 4.

Suffice to say, when it comes to utilising the prestigious Top Gear license, Forza is clearly the winner – as you can see in the video above Polyphony couldn't even get the camera angles to match the TV show.
