Game: Trials Evolution

Platform: PC, PS4, XBox One

Publisher: Ubisoft

Release Date: 18/04/2012

With 60 well-crafted readymade tracks, a lengthy single player and an advanced level creator, it's fair to say there's no shortage of content to keep you entertained in Trials Evolution. Little wonder it's become one of the most popular titles on XBLA thanks to its addictive and challenging gameplay that completely won us over.

But just when you thought you had conqoured just about everything Trials Evolution could possibly throw at you, Ubisoft has announced an upcoming DLC expansion that will let you sadistically injure your hapless rider in many new and innovative ways.

Known as "Origin of Pain," the DLC will add 36 new tracks in addition to some new tournaments and skill games, a new BMX bike and over 100 new items for the level creator, retailing for a modest 400 Microsoft points.

Set on the massive tropical Island of Paine, Origin of Pain will continue the standard set by Trials Evolution's lavish level design, featuring new environments for you to leap over including "lost temples, a haunted circus, deserted beaches and a menacing volcano."

The level creator will also add some new tools for the inventive community to play with, allowing for teleporting, gun firing, switch filters and vector math. And if that's enough, they're also tossing in 10 new multiplayer levels for more online anarchy.

Charging for extra levels seems slightly perverse when there's already a wealth of extra levels to download from the community free of charge, but for such a low price point the multitude of goodies you receive isn't exactly unreasonable.

PC players will also be able to get in on the action as Ubisoft announced the release of Trials Evolution Gold, which will bundle optimised version of both Trials HD and Trials Evolution as a digital download via Steam in early 2013. It makes sense considering that the Trials series originally started out on the PC, and Trials Evolution is such a staggeringly good game that it seemed a shame to restrict it to one platform.

Origin of Pain will be available in October, but in the meantime you can check out our verdict in our glowing Trials Evolution review
