News Sébastien Loeb Rally Evo will have Rallycross and over 50 iconic rally cars

News on Milestone's Sébastien Loeb Rally Evo has been thin on the ground since its unveil late last year, which comes as little surprise since Milestone are currently preoccupied with premoting Ride. A new developer diary with lead designer Alex Zucca (complete with stilted English dubbing) has broken the silence however, and while it doesn't contain any gameplay footage or screenshots we haven't seen before (seriously, why do Milestone love revealing a game with barren track screenshots), it does reveal some interesting new tidbits about the game.

Perhaps the biggest revelation is that Rally Evo will contain rallycross events in addition to the standard time trial rally stages – a mode this editor has been longing to see in WRC.

The addition of rallycross should bring some welcome variety to the proceedings, as while tackling WRC's time trial stages is fun and challenging in its own right,  it does become a tad lonely and samey after a while. Like the point-to-point Rally circuits, which Milestone boast will span over 250km of authentically recreated tracks, the rallycross circuits will be based on "the most famous and important rallycross circuits in the world." Judging from the video, expect to see Pikes Peak make an appearance, especially as Loeb is famous for smashing the record time by a minute and a half. Edit: Pikes Peak has now been confirmed to be in Rally Evo, along with four other rallycross tracks and eight rally locations with weather and night options.

Dare I say it, but adding rallycross puts Rally Evo directly in Dirt's slipstream which also has rallycross events, a series which prides itself on its variety of off-road racing modes, from straight-up rally stages, to trailblazers and rally raids. Sébastien Loeb is also known for competing in rallycross having won Gold in the 2012 X Games so it of courses makes sense to see rallycross feature in a game made in his honor, but there could still be some additional surprise game modes yet to be revealed. 

The dev diary also sheds some light on what we can expect from Rally Evo's car list, with news that should make ardent rally fans rejoice. Whereas WRC 4 was stripped of the classic rally cars that were once a staple of the series in favor of focusing on the official 2014 WRC season cars, Rally Evo will contain the "biggest collection of rally cars currently on the market," with over 50 iconic cars spanning six decades, from the 1960's up to the present day. WRC 3 featured the infamous Group B cars, including the classic Peugeot 205 Turbo 16, Ford RS200, Lancia Delta and Renault 5 Maxi Turbo, so it's likely we'll see these make a return unless licensing restrictions are still in place.

So far, so promising. There's still one question the dev diary hasn't answered, though – where is the PC release?
