The development of the upcoming 'Free2Race' sim racer RaceRoom Racing Experience is rapidly starting to shift up a gear, as SimBin has announced some pertinent details of their ambitious PC project.

Chief among which is the announcement that RaceRoom will launch into open beta as early as next week – yes, that means anyone will be able to sign up free of charge to test drive what is believed to be SimBin's precursor to the long-awaited GTR3.

You will therefore no doubt be wondering just how much you will be expected to shell out for extra content. Fortunately, SimBin also announced the pricing details, confirming that cars will retail for 2-3.50€ whereas tracks will be sold for 3.50-5.50€, with values displayed as in-game 'Virtual Race Points' currency which can be topped up with real money.

What may irk some players, however, is that some features of RaceRoom will be restricted in the free version – including the physics engine.

As noted in the trailer, the free version of RaceRoom will have an 'amateur driving model', but additional features to enhance the game, including the more demanding true-to-life 'Get Real' physics engine which presumably turns all the assists off and an Apex Hunter mode, will be available to buy for 1€. It's easy to grumble at such apparent sacrilege, but when you consider you're getting a very polished PC racing simulation with considerably advanced physics and graphics that rival full-priced retail games for little over the cost of an iTunes track, it suddenly doesn't sound so blasphemous.
