News Project CARS 2’s career is deeper and richer than before

The original Project CARS was a very ambitious game with its extensive career mode featuring a generous offering of different motorsports disciplines. The sequel was always going to be up against it, however it looks like Slightly Mad Studios are on the right track thanks to a bevy of new career mode details released today which tells of a deeper and richer experience.

Project CARS 2's career mode contains a colossal 29 different motorsport types and five unique disciplines over its six career tiers. As before, players can choose to start from the bottom tier, this time with karts, Formula Rookie and Ginetta Junior disciplines on offer, before climbing up to the pinnacle of Motorsport which will see you behind the wheel of an IndyCar if you choose.

Of course players can jump into any of the six tiers and any form of motorsport from the off should they wish: if you don't like the sound of karting you can simply skip it altogether.

Project CARS 2 has seven lifetime goals which tasks the player to dominate the same series over and over, win three major events such as the Le Mans 24 Hours and Indy 500 and more besides. Events have been carefully curated to get the most out of the 180 plus cars and 40 tracks on offer. For instance, there's a new “modern classic” racing series which features Group 5 GTs, Group A touring cars and Group C prototypes.

Contracts are back in Project CARS 2, albeit in a refined form, which grants the player greater choices this time around. Players can now choose the car they wish to drive in a specific series and will be presented with the teams which own that very car (and a have a spare slot).

Additionally, Project CARS 2 has a new “Manufacturer Drives” feature which includes many household names such as Ferrari, Aston Martin and Porsche. Here players are invited to a series of events with the goal of becoming a factory driver. Voluntary events are also back and players can choose to compete in these as many times as they wish.

No doubt we'll get more details on what could be the racer of the year very soon. Project CARS 2 is set to release on September 22 for the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
