Publisher Electronic Arts has confirmed today that their upcoming title “Mirrors Edge Catalyst” has been pushed back by around two weeks.

In a statement on the Games website Erik Odeldahl, the titles Design Director stated that the slight pushback would allow the team the necessary extra time to adjust the game based on results from the Closed Beta which is currently ongoing.

The upcoming part-prequel/part-reboot to 2008’s Mirrors Edge was scheduled for release on May 24th, but this has now changed to June 7/9th for the US/Europe markets respectively.

The statement made reference to the many multiplayer features, known internally as ‘Social Play’, that both developers DICE and publishers EA view as key to the player’s experience; Aiming to make the most of the feedback provided during this beta window the team in Erik’s words “… will give ourselves a bit more time to perfect the game… we're confident these extra two weeks will make sure the game is as amazing as possible for you the players”

While praised for its art style and its innovative movement, Mirrors Edge was a game that relied on timing and when the action-adventure parkour game worked best it was when everything synched up in terms of movement. It seems EA are keenly aware of this and are taking the necessary steps to ensure these immersion-breaking moments are minimised as best they can. Considering the overwhelming demand the signup for the beta generated tThe signup page lasted in less than an hour from opening for registration before being pulled for capacity) they will certainly have a lot of testers on hand to provide the information required.
