It's been a while since we last heard of anything associated with the upcoming PC sim Assetto Corsa. Now, though, developers Kunos have provided a little situation report on the upcoming Technology Preview Demo for the title.

In the status update, Kunos Simulazioni has announced that work on the first 1.0 build of the Assetto Corsa demo is "in progress", and the beta of the demo seems to be "stable and smooth on different configurations".

However, Kunos have declared that, should the issues not be too serious, they might be able to shut down the public build for a short time in order to rectify the problems.

The same paragraph the above phrase was mentioned in, though, did state that the hardware requirements for the Tech Preview will be announced shortly.

The status update went on to say that the Technology Preview Demo shouldn't be seen as a "full demo" of the finished Assetto Corsa title, and instead should be percieved as a "benchmark".

The latter paragraphs of the statement, though, do seem rather intriguing: whilst the statement confirmed that only one car and one track will be present in the tech demo will be available in at least the early stages of the Tech Demo's life, the circuit in question is Italy's Autodromo dell'Umbria.

The solitary car that'll be available in the first public build of the Tech Demo, though, still remains a mystery. The statement confirms that the Fiat 500 Abarth was originally considered (and has now been added to what Kunos refers as the "future demo car list" ), it has instead been replaced with a currently unknown "guest-star car", with the only clue being offered is that it'll be a lightweight sports car.

All in all, a pretty reassurring yet simultaneously intriguing and interesting statement from Kunos Simulazione, especially with regards to the mystery car. Given the Tech Preview Demo is set to be released in a few weeks time, we're bound to find out what it is soon, but – in the meantime – does anyone here wanna hazard a guess as to what it'll be?

Feel free to tell us your predictions in the comments below, on our Facebook page and in the Assetto Corsa thread in our Forums.

For those who want to read the statement in full, scroll down to read it in its entirety:

"Hello there! Finally, the work on version 1.0.0 of the Assetto Corsa Technology Preview is in progress. Therefore, soon, we’ll see how the Assetto Corsa engine and GUI run on thousands of PCs.

In the absence of any serious issues, we may be able to close off a public build within a short time period. And soon we will be in a position to also announce the minimum hardware requirements you will need to run Assetto Corsa.

Anyway, we would like to thank you profusely for your patience. We have a little surprise for you all: Following your suggestions, instead of using the 500 Abarth, that will be added in a future demo car list, a guest-star car will be included in this Tech Preview.

We are confident that you will appreciate it; the car manufacturers in question have already sent us their approval to include it in this upcoming benchmark. It is a perfect match for the Magione racing circuit, a lightweight sportscar perfectly suited to the Autodromo Dell’Umbria’s switchbacks.

We aim to offer you an enjoyable challenge, even if the Tech Preview is just a benchmark, and is not to be considered a full demo of the Assetto Corsa racing game."
