News Ghost Games tweaks Need for Speed Payback’s progression mechanics

Need for Speed Payback developer Ghost Games has adjusted the progression system, in a bid to make player progression "a much more enjoyable experience".

Detailed on the official Need for Speed sub-Reddit, the tweaks to Need for Speed Payback's player progression mechanics primarily focuses on increasing the amount of REP experience points and Bank in-game currency rewards. As a result, players will now be able to accumulate vehicles and additional modifications for them at a faster rate than before.

The post on the Need for Speed sub-Reddit also confirms "further tweaks" are coming to the open-world racing game in the near future. At time of writing, the only confirmed revision for Need for Speed Payback's is an adjustment to "the way tune-up shops work" in the game.

Despite the changes to the progression system, microtransactions that are used to purchase randomised 'Shipment' content drops are still active in Need for Speed Payback. That being said, the increased REP and Bank rewards should in theory heavily reduce the incentive to bypass the game's progression mechanics with real-world money.

The full changes made to Need for Speed Payback's progression systems, as detailed on the sub-Reddit post, have been listed below:

• Increased the amount of REP awarded by taking part in events.
• Increased the amount of Bank awarded by taking part in events.
• Bait crates now reward increased REP.
• Bait crates now reward increased Bank.
• Competing against a Roaming Racer will reward you with increased REP.
• Competing against a Roaming Racer will reward you with increased Bank.
• Air Suspension will now appear more frequently within Shipments.
• Slightly increased REP and Bank for finishing an event outside of first place.
