Last month we reported that filming for Fast and Furious 6 was scheduled to commence in Glasgow, which raised our hopes that a UK location could be the backdrop for a high octane car chase scene, which is all too rare.

Fortunately, it looks as if we were right to be optimistic. Taking place in the early hours of the morning, filming commenced on August 29th and, thanks to an amateur filmer who helpfully uploaded their footage to YouTube, we've managed to uncover a spectacular stunt that took place.

Judging by how many cabs appear to be on set, it seems that Glasgow is actually being used to mimic a London location. Of course, we're more interested in the stunt work on display, and Fast and Furious 6 looks as if it will continue Fast 5's attempt to break the record for the most police cars destroyed in one film. It was enough to make The Blues Brothers weep as dozens of police cars met their fate by kissing an enormous bank vault being towed by the protagonist's Dodge Chargers.

Here a Hummer can be seen evading pursuing police cars, leading to a spectacular stunt in which one police car speeds up a conveniently placed ramp, causing it to do a barrel roll through the air before landing on all four wheels.

Sadly we couldn't find any other clips showing gratuitous destruction of cop cars, but we do know that a car showroom was built specifically for the film – presumably it was used for another destructive set-piece involving crashing cars and copious amounts of glass.

While the trendy delinquents the film is designed to appeal to no doubt relished the action-packed filming, other parts of the community were less enthralled. A letter was sent out informing residents to be prepared for a few noisy nights as, being an action film, the sessions would contain "high-speed car chases, crashes, controlled explosions, car flips and intermittent gunfire," but many complained at the lack of prior consultation.

Filming also reportedly continued in London this week, with photos emerging showing The Rock and a battered Lamberth Bridge.

It's encouraging to see the UK at the center of a major Hollywood car-orientated film at long last. Fast and Furious 6 is slated for release in May 2013.
