The first ever official Formula One esports series will officially commence later this year, with the grand final to be set alongside the final round of the real Formula One World Championship.

To be hosted on F1 2017, the competition will run from 4th September 2017 to 25th November 2017, with the final concluding the day before the final round of the 2017 Formula One World Championship.

A pair of qualifying rounds in the F1 2017 game will be used to decide the 40 entrants who'll be entered into the semi-finals on 10th October 2017. Details on the qualifying rounds are scarce at time of writing, though it has been confirmed the qualifying rounds will consist of points-gathering exercises on the in-game Monza and Suzuka circuits that focus on race management, instead of a more traditional time trial setup.

Of the 40 semi-finalists, the top 20 will be entered into the races that make up the grand final, which will be held at the Yas Marina Circuit. The grand final will be held from 24th November to 25th November 2017, with the overall winner being crowned the inaugural Formula One eSports Series Champion.

More details on the Formula One eSports Series and how to register for the qualifying rounds are expected to be revealed in the coming days.
