Classic cars are making a comeback in Codemasters' F1 2017 for the first time since F1 2013 which should delight hardcore fans of the series, though sadly there won't be any classic tracks to compliment the vintage race cars. Codemasters hasn't showcased any in-game footage of F1 2017 since the announcement trailer, but the game was on display at E3 where we were able to capture some off-screen gameplay of the  Bahrain International Circuit.

We get to grips with the track driving a 2007 Ferrari which was one of the several classic cars confirmed in the game. Classic cars will be incorporated into the new career mode through Invitational events, including an overtake mode where you have to overtake the AI cars within three laps which you can see in our gameplay video.

Visually, F1 2017 is looking promising and sports some impressive trackside details, though the off-screen footage doesn't do it justice. It's also worth noting that the gameplay was taken from a work in progress alpha build that isn't representative of the final game, so there's still time for the game to be polished before F1 2017 hits the track this August.
