In news that will probably surprise no-one, Codemasters' F1 2015 has finished in pole position in the UK charts, debuting at number one and racing ahead of the acclaimed Askham Knight.
In fact, F1 2015 has been so successful that it's already outsold F1 2014's week one sales by a whopping 367%. This probably shouldn't come as a surprise, though – F1 2014 was given a rushed release on last-gen formats, acting as an obvious stop-gap while work was underway on preparing F1 2015 for its belated current-gen debut on an all-new version of Codemasters' EGO engine.
In the UK, the PS4 version of F1 2015 proved to be the most popular platform, outselling its Xbox One adversary which isn't uncommon. And yes, the Xbox One version once again runs at an inferior 900p resolution. It's worth noting, however, that the sales figures don't take downloads into account, which probably rules out the majority of PC sales.
Here's this week's official UK game sales charts:
UK Sales Charts: 13th July, 2015
- F1 2015
- Batman: Arkham Knight
- LEGO Jurassic World
- The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited
- Grand Theft Auto V
- The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
- Minecraft: Xbox Edition
- Minecraft: PlayStation Edition
- Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
- Destiny
Another victory for the racing genre, then, following Project CARS' debut at number one before it went on to sell over one million copies. As Fifa proves year after year, licensed sports games with loyal fanbases are an easy sell. Still, it's assuring to find this year's lacklusture season seemingly hasn't dampened F1 fans' enthusiasm for the sport.
