From Steve McQueen's legendary Lola Le Mans Car, to the original Batmobile, we've seen a spate of movie car stars sold off at various auctions as of late. And now one of my personal favourites will also be going under the hammer: Eleanor, the leading lady from Gone in 60 Seconds.

On May 18th, the modified 1967 Shelby Mustang, which starred in Jerry Bruckheimer’s Gone in 60 Seconds remake of the 1974 cult classic original, will be sold off at the Dana Mecum’s 26th Original Spring Classic auction in Indianapolis.

It's a particularly rare breed, too – out of the eleven 'Stangs reportedly built for the film, only three were working models, two of which were destroyed during stunt sequences. This privately-owned model represents the 'hero' car driven by Nicholas Cage, which was used for close-up shots in the film and posed for posters and promotional material.

Technically-speaking, the cars built by Cinema Vehicle Services, with the help of famous car designer Chip Foose, were not authentic Shelbys, but replica models based on Mustang Fastbacks fitted with unique bonnet and boot panels, centrally-mounted lights, beefed-up bumpers and a snarling 5.7 litre V8 engine producing 400 horsepower. Nitrious sadly isn't included, but you do at least get the famous 'Go Baby Go' shift knob button to compensate.

Given that this represents the last surviving Eleanor and was driven by Nicholas Cage himself, we're expecting it to fetch an astronimical asking price – particularly as another model which featured in the film was sold in a previous auction for $216,000 in 2009.

Unless I miraculously win the lottery by then, I think I'll stick with my 1:18 diecast replica model, thanks.
