Assetto Corsa: New car packs, tracks and cars detailed for 2017

Kevin Dooley On January 3, 2017

2016 was a strong year for Assetto Corsa, highlights included the launch (much to our surprise) of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions along with three Porsche packs released on the PC version (with console owners still waiting on volumes II and III).

It might be fair to think that 2016 would be a hard act to follow, however developer Kunos has recently taken to their official blog to give us a run down of what to expect in 2017 and it makes for some good reading. New features, content, and DLCs will be coming to the racing sim along with free bonus cars and tracks.

The console versions of Assetto Corsa will soon benefit from customisable championships which have made their appearance on the PC version recently. The console versions will also gain private online lobbies which will enable players to create their own races and leagues.

We've also got the addition of the Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway to look forward to at some point in 2017 as well as a new surprise circuit which Kunos are not yet revealing. Continuing the track theme, Kunos has created their own fictional track (scheduled for release in Q1 2017) which comes in 4 different configurations said to satisfy elements of city track, drift and endurance racing.

Free bonus cars, like the Mazda 787B, the Miata NA, the new Maserati Quattroporte and the new Audi TT have all been confirmed for a 2017 release. Furthermore, Kunos will be releasing the “British Pack” which will come with iconic models from the likes of McLaren, Lotus (yes more Lotus) and “maybe, something more”. After that, Kunos will celebrate 70 years of Ferrari with seven of the most iconic and famous models created in Maranello. According to the development team, the Assetto Corsa community will be able to vote for their favourite Ferrari's to be included in the racing sim.

Finally, Kunos are now putting the final touches together to open a new studio, close to the Autodromo di Vallelunga as before, but with dedicated areas for VR (yes VR!), testing, multiplayer and R&D. Kunos are still holding some surprises back too so it will be interesting to see what else they have up their sleeves, if all goes to plan, 2017 is sure to be a very strong year for Assetto Corsa across all platforms and we can't wait to see the new content.
