Following their recent visit to Kunos Simulazioni at the Vallelunga Endurance 6H Race, Drivingitalia managed to record some gameplay footage of Assetto Corsa showing two laps of Imola driven in a Formula ACI Abarth car, a Pagani Zonda and a Lotus 49.

Visually, it's still lacking the wow factor that Project CARS continually delivers with every community gallery bordering on photorealism at times – Assetto Corsa looks understated and, dare I say it, a bit bland by comparison, but the off-screen video doesn't exactly do it justice.

But, as we keep reiterating, Assetto Corsa's physics are its main selling point, and it's this crucial element that could well leave Project CARS lagging behind. Project CARS may have the graphical horsepower to beat it in a straight line race, but Assetto Corsa could well overtake Project CARS on the corners with its advanced physics engine.

Indeed, the handling of the  Formula ACI car looks fluid with a strong level of grip and a good sense of speed in the video, but we're still awaiting our own hands-on with Assetto Corsa to determine if it can live up to its touted claims as the most sophisticated modern racing simulator – especially after their last project netKar Pro showed the potential of what the close-knit team at Kunos Simulazioni could achieve.
