Of all the WipeOut-inspired futuristic racers on our radar, Redout is one of our most anticipated thanks to its stylish visuals, terrific track design and scintillating sense of speed.

Developer 34BigThings have been hard at work developing Redout since it was announced last year as a spiritual successor to the likes of WipEout and F-Zero, and from what we've seen so far they've certainly captured the spirit of these iconic futuristic racers, particularly in arguably the most critical area: speed.

"From the first moment, you will feel the enormous amount of power coming from your engine," the developer wrote when describing the speed you will experience in Redout. "Hovering a few meters above the ground going over 800 km/h is no piece of cake. There’s no racing on rails here: each input will apply a physical force to your ship. This means you will feel every turn and every twist in the track."

Redout was recently on show at this year's E3, which was accompanyed with a new trailer showing off some of the tracks and craft that feature in the game.

We particularly love Redout's visuals, blending low-polygon style terrains with the latest lighting and shaders powered by Unreal Engine 4 resulting in a distinctive visual style.

RedOut will be released some time in September for PS4, Xbox One and PC, with Oculus Rift and OSVR support also confirmed. 20 race tracks will be included along with seven game modes including Time Attack, Speed, Survival, Race, Last Man Standing, Arena Race and Score-Based Endurance.

If you want to experience Redout early, 34BigThings are currently accepting sign ups for a Redout closed PC beta. Also is it just me or do some of the craft in the trailer resemble pod racers?
