With Milestone focusing on their new IP Ride and handing over the WRC license to publisher BigBen Interactive, this year marks the first time in four years we haven't seen an annual WRC title on PC and consoles. However, in the absence of WRC 5, there is now a mobile alternative to tide us over.

Released on Android with 3DS and iOS versions to follow, the imaginatively-titled WRC: The Game features all the 2014 teams and drivers, allowing you to progress through the official 2014 WRC championship spanning 13 rounds and 60 special stages. WRC veterans can expect the usual variety of tricky terrain to navigate, from the icy banks of Sweden to the dusty trails of Sardinia. It's been developed by Glasgow-based Firebrand who are known as a leading developer of DS racing game ports including DiRT 2, Grid and Need for Speed: The Run, and published by BigBen Interactive.

Other features from the have also been replicated from the main series, such as visible vehicle damage, a rewind system and online rankings.

The 3DS version is apparently out now, but I can't find any retailers selling it other than GAME who are listing it to preorder for release in 2015. Meanwhile, the ANdroid version can be downloaded on Google Play for £2.49. It will be interesting to see how it stacks up alongside Colin McRae Rally.
