Kylotonn Games have announced WRC 6, due for release on PS4, Xbox One and PC in Autumn 2016.

As you would expect for an officially licensed game, WRC 6 will be based on the 2016 World Rally Championship, featuring all cars, teams and tracks from this year's season covering a wide selection of classes across WRC, WRC 2 and Junior WRC. 14 locations will feature in WRC 6, including the Rally China for the first time.

Following last year's WRC 5, WRC 6 will feature "significant improvements", including longer and narrower stages following fan feedback, which was one of the main criticisms directed at WRC 5. WRC 6 will also expand on the eSports started in WRC 5.

“We spent the last 8 months, since the release of WRC 5, collecting and studying all the feedback from the community to improve the experience and take it to a new level” says Alain Jarniou, Game Director at Kylotonn.

“The experience gained from WRC 5 helped the team to completely understand the expectations of racing fans when it comes to rallying. Roads were too wide in WRC 5? They will be narrower and more bumpy in WRC 6. Stages were sometimes too short? We created new longer stages and reworked everything to make them longer and more challenging. These are just a few examples of the massive improvements we are bringing to WRC 6 and we already know that players will definitely appreciate these changes”, concludes Alain Jarniou.

Kylotonn are also promising improved graphics and audio as a result of new development tools which will "raise the WRC experience on consoles to a new level of realism and excitement", along with new features which will be revealed in the next few weeks.

“If you enjoyed WRC 5, then you will love WRC 6,” said WRC Promoter and Managing Director Oliver Ciesla. “The developers have introduced significant improvements to make the playing experience even more exciting and true to life, while remaining faithful to its core aims of being an all-action game which takes in classic rallies and legendary special stages on all types of road surfaces.”

It's worth noting that the PlayStation Vita wasn't listed as a platform for WRC 6. This probably won't be surprising for most PS Vita owners since any new software release is now a rarity for the underrated handheld, but WRC 5 was released on Vita last year. It wasn't very well received however, somehow managing to look and play worse than Milestone's respectable WRC Vita ports which probably explains its absence.

More information is expected to be revealed at this year's E3, where WRC 6 will be playable.

Being Kylotonn's first foray into the rally game genre, WRC 5 was very much a foundation for future sequels to build on. "WRC 5 is an enjoyable rally game that sets itself apart as an approachable alternative to its more serious competitors, but it lacks the depth and polish seasoned WRC fans expect from an officially licensed game. WRC 5 can safely be filed under "fun but flawed," but it's an encouraging start for a new generation of rally games nonetheless, and there's plenty of scope for the series to evolve and improve in future iterations" we said in our WRC 5 review

So far the improvements made to WRC 6 sound very promising, and should hopefully result in a more authentic officially licensed rally game.
