Game: WRC 4

Platform: PC, PSVita

Release Date: 25/10/2013

Following their teaser trailer in the run-up to Gamescom, Milestone has released a more extended look at WRC 4 with a new gameplay run-through.

The video, which was taken from the PC version of the game, takes us through the narrow scenic Finland stage in the new 2013 Volkswagen Polo R WRC:

Again, we can see numerous improvements: the stage looks more authentic than WRC 3's Finalnd stages, with improved and more varied textures along with atmospheric touches such as the increased number of spectators and the addition of national flags. Whether it's a truly accurate representation of the real life Finland stages is up for debate, but it's still markedly better than WRC 3.

For comparison's sake, here's a video of Finland from WRC3:

Sadly, the lackluster engine sounds from WRC 3 still remain, but WRC 4 is still work in progress so we'll have to wait and see whether or not the developers are able to rectify this long-standing issue. I'm also not very keen on the speedometer meter shown in the HUD – it's too imprecise and cartoony, which contradicts the realistic aesthetic Milestone are aiming to deliver.

WRC 4 will be playable at Gamescom in Germany this week, so stay tuned for some exclusive hands-on footage and impressions directly from the showfloor coming soon.
