News Vettel Leaves Red Bull for Ferrari

News

Sebastian Vettel has rolled the dice and in a decision made just last night, informed his manager of his resignation from the Red Bull Racing team and will serve his notice through to the end of this season.

Christian Horner announced Vettel's decision to the media in the Suzuka paddock stating that the four-time champion will be leaving to join Ferrari in 2015, with Toro Rosso's Daniel Kvyat replacing Vettel in the car.

With rumours gathering pace on driver changes for 2015 in Suzuka all weekend, it is somewhat of a release to see something give way. It was long expected that 2015 would see a very similar lineup to 2014, but with cars across the grid not meeting pre-season expectations, a fresh start for 2015 seems to be the thing to do.

Questions are now immediately raised about who is leaving at Ferrari – expeectation is strong that it will be Fernando Alonso. With Red Bull's immediate announcement of Kvyat's call up, there is now a space at Toro Rosso – and late lifeline for Vergne maybe? If Alonso is leaving, all eyes are on McLaren and whether an announcement from them will be coming. Their new engine partner for 2015, Honda own the Suzuka circuit, and it would make sense for any change of driver lineup to be announced here. We shall see.
