Tron Legacy's Joseph Kosinski, whose film credits also include Oblivion, is apparently in early negotiations to helm Gran Turismo's forthcoming big screen debut, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Gran Turismo film adaptation was first revealed by series founder Kaz at Gamescom 2013 – while exact plot details are still being kept under wraps, it will supposedly center on a player turned racer; an obvious ode to the GT Academy. Kosinski is said to be working on a new script for Sony.

Michael De Luca  will remain a producer for the project alongside Matt Milam, Dana Brunetti, Josh Bratman, DeVon Franklin and Elizabeth Cantillon.

While Kosinski is known for his slick sci-fi flicks, the director has shown an interest in directing a racing film before. At one time he started working on a film based on Go Like Hell: Ford, Ferrari and Their Battle for Speed and Glory at Le Mans with Bratt Pitt and Tom Cruise pitted for star roles, but the proejct sadly never got the green light.

Last year also saw the release of the Need for Speed film adapatation directed by Scott Vaughn, which I'm not ashamed to say I rather liked. Say what you will about the acting and wafer-thin plot, the film delivered where it counted with its visceral automotive action sequences that relied on old-school practical stunts instead of cheating CGI.
