It's fast becoming common knowledge that The Crew will put the 'massive' into massively multiplayer online racing.

Spanning some 5,000sq km, Ubisoft have taken on quite an audacious task to say the least: to create a richly detailed open world representing the entirety of the US.- So far, we've seen condensed versions of New York, Los Angeles and Miami.

In our latest E3 gameplay video, we take a leisurely drive and explore The Crew's massive map across a variety of terrain, and even encounter a spot of wildlife on our travels:

Considering the staggering scale of the map, not to mention the game's relatively early stage of development, the detail on display is awe-inspiring. While we're still excited about the big name driving games of the next generation horizon such as Forza Motorsport 5 and DriveClub, The Crew immediately stands out above them all by utilising the next generation tech to deliver an open world with unprecedented scope rather than relying on producing pretty graphics alone.

As you can see from the video, The Crew will retain Driver: San Francisco's ability to zoom out and spawn anywhere in the game map in real-time Google Earth-style.

As requested, we also get our first glimpse at The Crew's cockpit camera, and while the field of view is perhaps a little too close for our liking, it's nonetheless a welcome addition, particularly if it's implemented into every available car.

The Crew still isn't scheduled for release until next year, so it will be interesting to see how it developers considering how polished it already looks in its current state.

As always, we'll keep you posted on news regarding The Crew throughout the course of its development. In the meantime if you like what you see why not share your thoughts in the official thread for The Crew on our forum?
