In this week's TeamVVV.com Weekly Racing Video Game News round-up, we delve into the surprise, earth shattering announcement that was FaceBook's acquisition of Oculus Rift, the VR headset that's already proving popular for PC sim racers, following last week's unveil of Sony's Project Morpheus. VR Farmville, here we come.
While VR technology is being hyped as the next step to revolutionise the gaming industry, Microsoft have their own future planned with the reveal of DirectX12, the next wave of their PC graphics technology that will also be applied to Xbox One. However, what surprised us was the game used to showcase the software: a PC port of Forza Motorsport 5. Unsurprisingly, this has sparked hopes that we could be seeing the currently Xbox One-only title on PC at some point in the future.
Elsewhere, more developments on DriveClub emerged; but sadly it still wasn't that all-important release date we've been so patiently waiting for. Quite the contrary infact, because Evolution Studios has faced redundancies and the Lead Director also left the project. All this is painting a bleak picture for what was supposed to be one of the most anticipated PS4 launch titles. Surely we're due some positive DriveClub news soon?
Then there was the onslaught of new car additions and announcements for multiple pc sim racing games, including a couple of Audi R8s for Project CARS, Niki Lauda's legendary Ferrari 312T speeding onto Assetto Corsa and the special Audi 90 Touring car bound for R3E.
