This week's biggest racing game-related news story was of course the surprising announcement of World of Speed, Slightly Mad Studio's upcoming free-to-play MMO racer which looks like a hybrid of the free-to-play MMO Need for Speed World, the team-based, social-centric DriveClub and Project Gotham Racing's city tracks. Like Project CARS, it looks absolutely picture perfect, but unlike Project CARS it has an emphasis on team-based racing and community features, as is the current trend of next-gen racing games it seems. Still, it certainly sounds promising, even if free-to-play games are getting a bit of a bashing at the moment.

Elsewhere, Milestone's MXGP has been dominating the news pages of this very site this week, and rightly so: it's shaping up to be easily the most authentic motocross game to date, and about time, too. We've got plenty of screenshots, a gameplay trailer and even an informative developer interview to attest this.

In other news, Sumo Digital is apparently working on a follow-up to "one of the most successful driving franchises of all time." Whatever could this be? Well, sifting through their back catalogue uncovers potential sequels to TOCA and Outrun. However, bare in mind that many of the employees at Sumo Digital used to work for Bizarre Creations, which leads me to one conclusion: a potential Project Gotham Racing sequel. Yes please.
