Apart from the highly publicised GT Academy, there's been very little to do with the Gran Turismo gaming series as of late. No DLC news, no updates…nothing, if we're honest.

That is, until now. According to GTPlanet's currently anonymous sources, it appears a new track will be added to the franchise at some point.

And the circuit in question, you may ask? It's none other than the mighty Silverstone.

The host of various GT Academy events over the years, it appears that the crew from Polyphony Digital (the company that develops the Gran Turismo games) have not only been spotted scanning and photographing the Silverstone GP circuit, but have done so several times recently.

To be more specific, the PD employees were last spotted on the Stowe Circuit –  the one-mile course that hosts a vast majority of the GT Academy's "Race Camp" events – touring the track with a Nissan Navara pick-up truck, along with all the equipment they'd need to recreate the famous British circuit in the realms of a GT game.

It's not known exactly when the Silverstone location will be introduced to the Gran Turismo franchise, but given it's just been analysed in prepartion for a virtual reconstruction, we doubt it'll be part of a DLC pack for GT5 anytime soon, unless Polyphony and Sony decide to prolong the title's lifespan so its successor will be ready for the upcoming and highly anticipated PS4 gaming console.

That said, with Silverstone now confirmed along with Bathurst to appear in the GT series soon, along with some Pebble Beach and SEMA show winners that we're still waiting to see introduced to the current or a future Gran Turismo title, the short term future for Kazunori Yamauchi's cherished game franchise looks like it's set to be very interesting indeed!
