Game: Horizon Chase Turbo

Platform: PC, PS4, Switch, XBox One

Publisher: Aquiris Game Studio

Release Date: 28/11/2018 (Switch & XONE)

Following its initial iOS release back in April, Aquiris Game Studio’s glorious retro racer Horizon Chase has finally arrived on Android devices.

Available to download on Google Play for the modest sum of £1.99, Horizon Chase is billed as a love letter to the 8-bit racing games of yesteryear such as OutRun, Lotus Turbo Challenge and Top Gear, featuring vibrant visuals, fast paced checkpoint-based gameplay and tail-happy handling suitable for touch screens.

Fun fact: Aquiris were so keen to replicate the vibe of the games they’re paying tribute to that they hired none other than Barry Leitch to produce the soundtrack for Horizon Chase – he happens to be the original soundtrack composer of Top Gear, Lotus Turbo Challenge and the Rush series.

Need another reason to pick up Horizon Chase? Unlike the majority of mobile racing releases (we’re looking at you Need For Speed No Limits), Horizon Chase doesn’t commit the cardinal sin of blocking progress with micro-transactions: instead the game can be bought standalone for £1.99, or you can try before you buy with free access to the first 5 circuits. Can’t say fairer than that.

Releasing Horizon Chase on Android devices should help expand its reach and show modern gamers that realism doesn’t always guarantee fun gameplay when it comes to racing games. Its beauty lies in its simplicity.

Horizon Chase is also due to powerslide onto PS4, PC, WIndows Phone and Amazon at a later date.

Have you taken Horizon Chase for a spin on Android yet?
