Turn 10 Studios' creative director Dan Greenawalt has confirmed that Forza Motorsport 5 will feature downloadable content that'll be mandatory to experience the racing game in its entirety.

Speaking to IGN.com, Greenawalt revealed that more emphasis would be placed on DLC in the upcoming Forza game, especially when compared with previous entries in the franchise:

"When you first boot up the game, we’re going to ask you to log in,” he explained. “And when you log in you’re going to get the Drivatars and you’re also going to get a whole bunch of content: tracks and cars.

He went on to say in the interview that these additions to Forza Motorsport 5 would be released on Day One without any additional charge, though they will be "required content to play the game", due to the team at Turn 10 having "designed the game to work with all that content no matter how late is coming in, in order to make the biggest game possible.”

A fair bit of the published interview was dedicated on the Drivatar system (Forza Motorsport 5's attempt to revolutionise racing games by getting rid of artificial intelligence, and instead using cloud services that monitor players' driving styles to flesh out NPC opponents in the single player mode), though no new details on the intriguing feature bar what we learnt at this year's E3 were mentioned.

Despite such a seemingly intense focus on the online connectivity of the title – Greenawalt went as far to say "all of the cloud and online features make the game far, far better" – the Forza founder reassured the interviewer that his team is "trying to get as much of that into the unconnected, offline mode as well".
