We've known for some time now that the upcoming Scorpio console from Microsoft will be a beastly machine thanks to its 6 teraflops of power.

forza motorsport 6 project scorpioThis enables Microsoft's console to output titles at a native 4k resolution and at 60fps which is a mouth-watering prospect for racing fans who have long had to put up with half the frame rate for all too many titles.

In the recent tech reveal from Digital Foundry, we were shown a screenshot of Forza Motorsport 6 running on the Scorpio. The screenshot (right) showcased the game at 4k resolution (with 4K textures no less) and 60 frames per second which averaged around 70% of GPU usage only.

Couple this with the fact that the full grid of cars was used (and all visible in the shot), the wet weather present and that this was a port that only took two days, and you have a very impressive result.

With many multi-platforms racing tiles coming this year, it seems as though the Scorpio will provide the potential for these titles to be rendered at a native 4K and 60 fps with relative ease leaving behind the PlayStation 4 which may well have to settle for 1080p and just 30 fps in a lot of cases. However it remains to be seen if this will be the case, we're certainly keeping our fingers crossed for 60 fps racing titles later in the year.
