Platform: PC, PS4, XBox One

Publisher: Bandai Namco

Release Date: 06/05/2015

Oh dear. The console fanboy wars have reignited, as Slightly Mad Studios has now confirmed that Project CARS will not reach its target 1080p resolution on Xbox One, and will instead be locked down to 900p when it finally pulls out of the pit lane in mid May. Meanwhile, the PS4 version will run at 1080p as expected. Both versions will still run at 60 fps, however, but a split screen option had to be sacrificed in order to achieve the target frame rate.

Meanwhile, the PC version completely trumps both platforms, predictably – it's possible to run Project CARS at 12k resolution for maximum fidelity and spectacle, providing you have some considerably beefy hardware to run it. On the other hand, the performance, and indeed the release date, of the Wii U version of Project CARS remains unknown, but Slightly Mad Studios promise that more details will be revealed soon. And in case you had forgotten, Project CARS was scrapped on the last-gen PS3 and Xbox 360 formats in order to focus on current-gen platforms. A wise decision, given how stunning the game looks in numerous gameplay videos.

The final recommended PC specification requirements for Project CARS have also been revealed:

MINIMUM SPEC

GRAPHICS – nVidia GTX 260, ATI Radeon HD 5770

RECOMMENDED SPEC

GRAPHICS – nVidia GT600 series, AMD Radeon HD7000 series

It's unfortunate to see the Xbox One version suffer after Slightly Mad Studios stated they were "aiming to get" 60fps on both platforms. It's not exactly the end of the world, but it's intriguing to see so many third party developers struggling to achieve 1080p on Xbox One. Recently, Milestone managed to upgrade Ride to 1080p on Xbox One after working closely with Microsoft, but this led to it being delayed for several weeks.

Alan also managed to get a hands on with a recent build of Project CARS on Xbox One, where he found it to perform almost identically to the PS4 version, aside from the resolution. Check out his first look gameplay below.
