You simply can't have a Nintendo console without an obligatory Mario Kart game. Soon it will be the Wii U's turn with next month's release of the eight game in long-running series starring a podgy plumber with a penchant for kart racing.

Nintendo is banking on Mario Kart 8 being a system seller – especially as the struggling system isn't exactly awashed with must-have titles at the moment. Which is why it comes as no surprise to report that an official Mario Kart 8 Wii U console bundle has been announced for release on May 30th alongside the release of the game.

The Premium Pack will contain a 32GB Wii U Premium along with a physical copy of Mario Kart 8 and a Wii Sensor Bar. It can be ordered on the official Nintendo store for £249.99. It's also available for the same price on Amazon at the time of writing, but some sources are claiming it was previously listed for £220.00, so it might be worth keeping an eye on in case the price drops again.

Additional bundles are also available exclusively on the Nintendo UK store. Purchasing either the Team Mario or Team Luigi pack will land you with a Gamepad protector styled in the colour of your character of choice, along with a matching themed Wii Wheel, Wii Remote Plus, a Prima strategy guide and a funky hat.

And if that's not enough for any budding Mario fan, Princess Peach and Yoshi special edition Wii Remote Plus controllers will also be sold separately on the same day.

Does the prospect of burning rubber with everyone's favourite podgy plumber tempt you to take the plunge and buy a Wii U?
