Codemasters Racing has confirmed a rather enticing incentive to sign up to its RaceNet service: the gifting of a rather special vintage Formula One car.

As a present for registering with RaceNet (you can sign up for the service here if you haven't done so already), Codemasters will allow players access to Niki Lauda's Ferrari 312 T2 F1 car; the same one the Austrian drove in the spectatcular 1976 F1 season.

That same championship also forms the backdrop of Ron Howard's latest blockbuster Rush, which opened in UK cinemas today. (13 September 2013)

For players who are hoping to use the car in the game's classic races, sadly that isn't a possibility: Codemasters will only allow users to thrash Lauda's iconic Ferrari in the Time Trial mode. Still, at least this means we won't have to buy an Xbox One and Forza Motorsport 5 just to drive the 312 in a console video game this year…

In conjunction, Codemasters has also released an equally nostalgic trailer, giving us our first glimpse of the '76 car in F1 2013, with the musical overtones being provided by none other than "The Chain" by Fleetwood Mac.

Us die-hard F1 fans here at Team VVV are delighted with this announcement, but we're interested to know what your take on the news is, so do let us know in the comments section below or in our dedicated F1 2013 forum. And, as always, keep tuning back to the website for all the latest racing game news.
