A new update is due to launch for DriveClub next Monday on June 1st at 10am UK time. Bringing the game up to v1.16, the update will further improve server connectivity and prepare for the long-delayed DriveClub PlayStation Plus Edition.

It's a pretty significant server upgrade, as the servers used to provide the Challenges are being replaced, which "will bring bigger, better challenges and improve server performance across the game." Challenges and Event histories will be refreshed, so Evolution are advising not to schedule Challenges to end before the update's launch on June 1st at 10am. "You can continue to play and create Challenges before the update but please understand that any events that are still active during the update will not continue on the new servers."

Meanwhile, Evolution continue to work on the DriveClub PlayStation Plus Edition, a cutdown free-to-play version of the game available to PlayStation Plus users that was originally intended to be released alongside DriveClub's launch. It's said that the improved server connectivity will pave the way for the long-awaited release of DriveClub PS Plus Edition, but no date has been specified.

Here's the changelog of DriveClub update v1.16:

* Challenges will be expanded to support an unlimited number of participants.

* The Challenge Menu will have a new interface to make it easier to join Challenges.

* Invitation options will be optimised to focus on active players and reduce challenge notification spam.

* Significant technical improvements will be made to enhance server connectivity and prepare for the PlayStation Plus Edition.

Eight months on, you would think that anyone interested in DriveClub would probably have taken the plunge by now rather than wait for the free PlayStation Plus Edition – especially as it's not uncommon to see it selling for as little as £15 preowned.
